Shinjo Yokatsu Our glorious Daimyo, Shinjo Yokatsu, leads our armies. His tactical abilities are strong enough to give Akodo Toturi a serious challenge, and Fortunes forbid you meet him and his steed personally in melee on the battlefield.

He would rather be anywhere but the Court. If you watch him closely during his formal audiences, he cannot sit or kneel motionless for long, constantly fidgeting to find a more comfortable position. He sometimes tugs at his tight obi as if it were suffocating him. And I'm sure you've heard he almost never tries to stifle a loud curse when his etiquette has the slightest form break. That rumor is true. Just another reason why Lord Yokatsu prefers to leave politics to our talented Magistrate Ide Tadaji.

The excitement of battle that fired his soul during the Scorpion Coup roared to life again in the waning days of the Clan Wars and continues undiminished into the present. Upon the banishment of the Scorpion Clan, Yokatsu determined the opportunity to finally rid Rokugan of its most corrupting influence outside of the Shadowlands presented itself. In the dying days of that year, he personally led a small army of heavy cavalry, battle maidens, and Unicorn magistrates in placing Ryoko Owari, known as the City of Lies, under martial law in the name of the missing Emperor Toturi I.

In Hidden Emperor 5, the newly elevated Mantis Clan, with Yoritomo leading its army, marched boldly into the Scorpion lands claiming fosterage rights under an agreement with the exiled Scorpion Clan. Yokatsu took little note of the upstart until Doji Kuwanan, the Champion of the Crane Clan, led a large ambush of battle-hardened Crane veterans against the Mantis. Suddenly the nuisance became a major crisis, one Yokatsu believed he must settle lest the Emperor's law become forefeit.

He made a mistake in only relying upon his force on hand instead of waiting for reinforcements from the north. Still, Yokatsu led his small force with lightning speed deep into the heart of the Crane army and threatened to rout them all with his tactically masterful charge.

Few if any generals presently can outhink Yokatsu tactically, but Kuwanan topped Yokatsu that day. He quietly found Yokatsu amidst the melee, forced Yokatsu into a duel, struck the Unicorn daimyo to the ground, and extracted a vow from Yokatsu that in return for his life that the Unicorn army would not again assail the Crane armies. Yokatsu values his word as irretractable, but he licks his pride's wounds behind the walls of Ryoko Owari, pondering ways to provoke a rematch with the Crane Champion.

Recent News: It was revealed that he is a Kolat. Shinjo purged our clan of the Kolat, but Yokatsu managed to elude her. He is now no longer in the clan, being called only Yokatsu. The unicorn have no daimyo.
