Super mega update post

I haven’t posted in a while, but there’s a lot of updates…

Our landlord just came over and told us he wants to sell the house.  So we’ve got to move again :(  We really liked this place. The location is great and Loki loves the big back yard.  This is really depressing news.  The good news is that the landlord thinks it will take a few months to sell, so we can take our time to find a good place to move to.

EBay laid off about 10% of the workforce.  Thankfully my office only laid off a few people (and I was not one of them), but some good people and friends were affected.  Hopefully the Canadian economy can stay afloat.  WIth PM Harper getting reelected, I’m not hopeful.  I have quite a few stock options from eBay that are way under water…maybe some day they will be worth something.

On a happier note, Joe turned 40 last week and instead of going out on the town he elected to have some drinks here with friends. Here’s the remnants of his birthday cookie made by our neighbor Glen:

I found a seller on eBay who ships to Canada that sells the sea life plates I posted about earlier and now they’re mine!

And finally, I’ve completed a few creatures from Creepy Cute Crochet:

Me at drop zone

EBay had their company picnic at Playland this year.  I really wanted to go on Drop Zone, and I found a work buddy willing to go on with me….super fun.

Updates

I thought Starbucks had free wireless internet everywhere.  I was wrong.  I’m in a Starbucks in San Jose right now, and it costs $10 an hour!   However, I found a nice unsecured network on the list that had just enough bars to get a decent connection.  Take that Starbucks!

I’m in San Jose right now with a couple hours to kill before I have to be at the airport.  I got in last night and was just here for a project meeting for the day.  It was pretty exhausting…I had to get involved in some pretty heated discussions which ended up in compromises on both sides.  Working on this project has been really stressful, and in general work is kicking my butt right now. On the bright side, we have a new person starting on my team this week as well as another back from mat leave, so I can offload a lot of my work.  I’m definitely looking forward to the long weekend.

I’m pretty psyched at how my Etsy sales are going, I’ve sold 4 pairs of earrings so far, which I think is pretty good since I’ve only listed 12 things total!  EBay announced some new fee structures for fixed priced listings, so I might throw a few up on there too and see how they fair.  I think I owe it to eBay to try out the new pricing since they do keep me gainfully and happily employed!

Lately I’ve been making a real effort to get to some of the things on my life’s to-do list.  Selling my jewelry was one of them, and it feels great to have started that.  Next is guitar lesssons….I used to enjoy playing, but never got very good.  I’ve got a lead on a teacher who is pretty cheap, so I’m gonna try a couple lessons and see how things go.

So that’s my updates…nothing earth-shattering, but a lot by my life’s standards.

I’ve finally done it!

After years of people telling my I should sell my jewelry online, I’m finally doing it!

I’ve thrown a couple listings up on Etsy, a site that specializes in hand made goods.

Why not eBay you may ask?  Well, I love eBay to death, but haven’t had luck selling my jewelry there.  Ebay doesn’t feature handmade goods seperate from manufactured things, so it’s hard to compete.  The listings on Etsy are less expensive, though you get a lot less exposure than you would on eBay.  If business goes well on Etsy maybe I’ll expand to eBay as well.  On the other hand, I find that supplies on Etsy are expensive and I still do most of my buying on eBay.

Wish me luck!
