Science: it works, bitches.

Joe ordered us some shirts with the above slogan from the XKCD store: http://store.xkcd.com/

There are many more I’d love to have, but I don’t want to be one of those people that wears nothing but clever t-shirts.  It’s a fine line to walk…

Any-who, while I’m on the topic of Science!, Joe and I attended a very interesting presentation on supervolcanos last night at a pub.  Yes, that’s right, science at the pub!  Joe recently found a local skeptics group on facebook, and they were advertising Cafe Scientifique.  It’s a monthly science night where they have local scientists/experts give presentations at the pub while enjoying some beers.  We didn’t have much interest in the topic before hand, but we ended up being fascinated with the subject.  The presenter, Dr. Ben Kennedy, performed the diet coke + mentos trick to illustrate some of the properties of volcanoes. This was the first time I’ve seen that trick done in person, and it was really fun to watch.  We brought the camera, but I completely forgot to take pictures.

I look forward to the next event.  How can you go wrong combining science and beer?

More necklaces

I’ve been on a necklace roll lately.  Here’s a few I made recently.

The first one is cotton cord and magazine beads, the second is sead beads, magazine beads, and some buttons, the third is just metallic glass beads.

I have the best husband ever

Here’s why.

I’m too lazy to write my own blog post about it.   I’ll follow up once we’ve had a chance to play with it.

Magazine Beads Project #1

I’ve been working on a few necklaces using the recycled magazine beads I made a while ago.  Here’s the first one:

Long weekends are never long enough.

I worked on Canada Day in lieu of taking Friday off so I could have a nice long weekend.

Tonya and Saoirse stopped by for a visit.  We watched Iron Giant, and Saoirse tired out Loki.

Saturday was a nice mix of housework and lounging around relaxing.  I also finished up a few craft projects that had been hanging around half-done.  I might follow up with some pics.

Sunday was our regular poker night, and also Jen’s birthday.  We had a great time at Jennifer’s place, and she ended up taking all of our chips.  Happy birthday Niffer!  We polished off a couple bottles of wine and a bottle of champagne.  I got very pleasantly drunk, which was a nice change.  Recently I’ve been finding that alcohol just makes me tired and grumpy and I skip straight past the fun part.  Happily this was not the case last night, and I got laughy and stupid.

But now it’s Monday.  Work is nuts, I’m slightly hungover, and achy all over from working out yesterday (it was the first time in a long while).  Why do long weekends always seem to end too soon?
