I knew him before he was famous
Thursday night Joe and I went to Little Sisters book store for a book launch. An old high school friend, Jes Battis, is launching a book called Night Child. It’s been set up as the first in a series of “OSI” (Occult Special Investigator” books. I’m only a short way in, but it is the type of book that would appeal to all kinds of fantasy fans, in particular fans of shows like Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
It was great to see Jes again, and I still can’t get over that he is a published author. I knew a lot of intelligent and talented people in high school, but Jes was the only one that has always known what he wanted to do with his life and pursued it. While most of us are just get started on our career, he has his PhD, is teaching in New York, and has published several books. And just to make the rest of us look bad, he was just awarded the Governor General’s Gold Medal, a Canadian award for highest academic standing as a graduate student.
The next OSI book comes out in a year…I can’t wait!
