We Canucks fans are an odd bunch. We really do want to be confident that our team can do it, but there’s an underlying worry that they’ll choke… again. So watching Game Seven last night against the Dallas Stars was excrutiating. It didn’t look like the Canucks showed up to play in the first period so we were all getting into the mindset of a loss.
Then that second period happened and they dominated, tying the game up. But still that worry was there — they were just teasing us with this great play and they’d somehow lose it all. Something would happen that would fulfill our traditional Canuck play.
But it didn’t. We held on to the lead until well into the second period, and Dallas finally had to pull their goalie for the extra attacker, and we put not one, but two away into the empty net to seal the game. I honestly couldn’t believe it. I had built up the “we’re going to choke” thought in my head so firmly that I couldn’t believe we had actually won.
And it was only the first round… I don’t know if I can take another!
Go Canucks!
The weather’s getting better, and I’m itching to shed some of this accursed winter weight. Saturday, 2pm, the usual place? Do we have goalies? Make the call, people!
Colin kept bugging me to upload these, so they’re on my gallery now.
Played the first road hockey of the season yesterday. I tried to take it easy. Not only am I low on energy because of Medifast but it’s the first time back after months of doing very little physical activity.
Despite that: ouch. My shoulders hurt from the (wimply) slap shots I was taking, my right knee really hurts from the pavement impact travelling up from my foot. I’m hobbling up and down the stairs. The rest of my body just has a general “Ow fuck what did we do yesterday?” feel to it.
It hurts, but it’s a good hurt. It reminds me that though I may have lost weight, I’m not actually in shape again. So if the weather’s good I’ll be there next week, and the week after, and so on. Once I’m done Medifast I’ll be exercising more often.
Hey guys (you still read this now that I’m in Burnaby, right?) is anyone up for starting up road hockey on Wednesdays again? Daylight Savings is April 2nd which will make sunset on April 5th at 7:47pm. If we start at 6pm as usual we can get in over an hour and a half of hockey!
Who’s with me!? I can drop Mel off at work at 3 and drive in to the ‘wack and be there with tons of time to spare.
Monday’s a holiday — anybody up for playing at 2pm, the usual place?
