So Say We All

Hey, who’s that Viper pilot sitting next to Starbuck?
Ken Fraser sitting by Starbuck

If only they’d zoom in on him and give him some face time!

Ken Fraser gets face time!

Hey there Ken Fraser!  Congrats on the extra role!  For those that don’t know him (he used to be “Kenny B” to us, but changed his name) he’s an old friend of mine from Chilliwack.  He’s been doing a lot of extra work and he told me he got to get in the Viper pilot outfit a few times and how cool it was.

The Darkest of the Hillside Thickets - Walking On The Moon

Not the best copy.  I’m sure Bob Fugger’s got a good digital copy somewhere.  We’re just going to have to kick his ass to send it to Toren so he can upload — or to me.

We’re Moving (Again)

I’m not sure why I didn’t note it here, but after finally getting rid of the terrible downstairs tenants here, our landlords have decided to “take advantage of the market” (and, I’m guessing, the fact that they now live in Dallas) and are putting our current house up for sale in April.  This meant that Mel and I had to start looking around for a new place to live.  We live in the main area of this house so surely anyone who buys it would want to move in.

Over the past month and a half we’ve looked at a lot of homes.  With both of us being packrats, and me working from home a small apartment wouldn’t work.  Plus we’ve got Loki.  So we’ve been looking at houses.  Some are crazy expensive, some are nice but just too small.  Others were big but quite obviously ex grow-op houses that haven’t had the crappy moldy basement fully cleaned out yet.

Mel found a listing on Craigslist for a house for $2200/month (WAY out of our price range), but it noted that price was for the full house which included a big 2 bedroom suite downstairs, and that they could rent the upstairs for $1400 and downstairs for $1000, but would prefer to rent the whole thing.  We took a look at it and loved it.  It’s smaller than here, but two blocks north of skytrain.  The landlords seemed really nice — a young professional couple — and they seemed to like us as well, but stressed “it would be in your best interest to find someone to take the downstairs suite with you”.

So we started calling around.  My first thought was Mel’s brother Alex, who lives in Vancouver and is in the Army Reserves, as well as doing extra work on TV shows.  When I phoned him he told me that he had actually tried calling (my old cell #) a few weeks before wondering if the suite where we were was available!

Long story made a bit short, Alex will be taking the suite, we get the upstairs, and we signed the papers today.  We can start moving our stuff in on Sunday which is great — we’ve got a lot to move — but we officially take residence on March 1st.

Our new address:
Joe & Melany Fulgham
5710 Pioneer Ave.
Burnaby, BC
V5H 2X6

If you look at it on Google Maps you’ll see that we’re only a couple of blocks north of Metrotown, which is where the Skytrain station is.  This should make for Vancouver people visiting us a lot easier and vice-versa.

Strong friends:  We’ll be needing some help for the move!  I’ll probably rent a truck for the weekend of Feb 24-25.  Pizza and beer provided, of course!

The Flu Ate My Sunday

Yes, the flu ate my Sunday, and it’s still nibbling away at the rest of the week.  Late Saturday night — in fact I was in bed so I guess that means it was technically Sunday morning — I got nauseous.  That night had been an “off day” for Mel and me and we’d had some chips and dip so I initially wrote it off as simply an upset stomach that’s not used to such food.

Then it got worse.

Then I spent most of the rest of the night over the toilet.

I don’t remember much of Sunday.  Mel got me some medication and I half-slept through most of the day.  Near the end I was coherent enough to turn the laptop on and watch some Venture Bros. (Season 1).  That night I knocked myself out again with some Benelyn.  Wheee!

Monday was pretty bad too, though I was able to get up and get a few things done.  My body was one big ache though.  I can still feel it today, and now Mel has come down with it.  She’s home from work early despite several planned meetings today so you know it’s serious.

So look out!  There’s a brutal flu on the loose!
