From Andrew Duffy on the Class of 86 mailing list:
The Sardis Secondary School class of 1986 will be having their 20 year reunion on July 29, 2006 starting at 8pm at The Industry Night Club (formerly Good Times, formerly Earthquake Annie’s).
Darryl Campbell’s band will playing retro rock that night, and has received permission from the bar owner to give us exclusivity to the night club from 8-12am, although they are open till 2am.
If anyone is interested in some sort of daytime activities we can always use the forum board to post them. So if a group of people want to get together to go shoot a round, then they can post there and work out the details.
Now its albout getting the word out, and remember, we want everyone to sign up at the www.classof86.ca website so this is much easier in the future. No spam, no pop-ups, and no ads like classmates.com, and you can email directly.
I had been on my diet since the first month we moved out to Burnaby so Mel & I really hadn’t had a chance to take advantage of living close to the city and transit. Mel had Friday off (she works the 3-midnight shift, so if she didn’t, this wouldn’t be possible) so we decided to remedy that and made plans with soon-to-be-married Jess Pink and Rob Tarzwell. Jess made reservations at Kobe Restaurant which was really expensive but really really good. The chefs make the food right in front of you on the big grills and really put on a show. We Skytrained in so we both partook of the “Smiling Buddha” drink — you get to keep the Buddha shaped mug it comes in!
Afterwards we went to Milestones and had a few more drinks and talked. The girl who seated us looked totally familiar and I finally asked her if I knew her from somewhere and after a short chat she said “Well, I only just moved here. I used to be in Chilliwack” and from there realized that she had gone to at least one of the UCFV Theatre parties I went to and that was that. I wasn’t crazy, I really had met her before!
The evening winded down with us going to Rob & Jess’ place and just hanging out while “What Not To Wear” was on. Rob had to work early in the morning so he excused himself to bed while we stayed up and chatted some more. On the Skytrain home a native Indian guy sitting across from us was really drunk and agressively shouting out something about “refugees” and how “natives were screwed” and “never got no apology”. Had he not been so totally hammered that he was incomprehensible he may have actually had a point. Most everyone else just looked away from him, but I kept my eyes on him most of the time knowing the alcohol might make him think he can get physical with someone. He got off at the very next stop.
He did have a cool native orca tattoo on his left arm. Before he started shouting at everyone I was actually thinking about asking if I could take a picture of it with my cameraphone. Oh well.
Sorry about keeping a picture of the old fat me at the top of the blog so long. I’m writing this post simply to move it out of the way.
Things are picking up business-wise, which figures because we’ve got a bunch of personal stuff to do coming up. On the July 1st weekend Mel & I will be flying out to Toronto for Vik’s wedding. It’ll be the first Hindu wedding we’ve attended and I’m really looking forward to it. Especially the food. On my “transition phase” from Medifast to real food I’m avoiding the yummy buttery goodness of Indian food, but on that weekend I’ll be partaking of at least a bit.
The week after that we’re having a bunch of out of town guests, some for nearly a week. And in the middle of all of it I’ve got a bunch of work for AEG, and at least one, possibly two new clients. And I’ve taken over Toren’s Mutants and Masterminds game which requires quite a bit of conversion work because the module I’m using was created by the 1st Edition rules.
Add all this on to trying to get more exercise, whether it’s time on the stationary bike or simply taking Loki for more walks, and my recreation time has been severely limited. Ok, admittedly I used to have way too much, but the reduction to a reasonable amount still hurts!

Same shorts! 78.5 lbs difference! One year timeframe and two separate Medifast runs (3 months long and then 4 months this year).
Last year at this time (end of June, actually) I was 248.5 lbs. This morning I weighed in at 170.0 lbs exactly. I graduated high school (20 years ago!) at 210 lbs. I haven’t weighed this little since probably Grade 8.
Here are some more shots… FOR THE LADIES.

Here’s a (large) animation blending from start to finish (just the two shots, no actual in-between morphing):

Craig got himself a new computer recently and I immediately went into protective geek mode and started telling him all the security software and updates he should make sure he had installed and his eyes kind of glazed over and so I said “maybe I’ll make a blog post about it so you can just follow the links.”
Ok, so you have your new computer. Why are you on the Internet with it already? If you didn’t activate your Windows Firewall before connecting you may already have become infected! I’m serious, turn it on!
Windows Firewall
Click Start > Control Panel > Windows Firewall and make sure it’s “On”. Those of you who are more advanced users and have a hardware firewall (such as a hardware router like my DI-624) can pretty safely disable the WIndows Firewall. There are other firewall options such as ZoneAlarm but it’s recently become nagware so I avoid it (their page really tries to get you to buy it too). If you really care, get a router. They’re great and can provide you with Wireless Networking around the house if you have a notebook. It’s become really handy for us to have Internet anywhere in the house thanks to Wireless.
Windows Updates
Ok, then I want you to go to http://www.windowsupdate.com/ and get all the Critical Updates and reboot. And then? Go there again and do it again. Because some Critical Updates won’t show up until you have other Critical Updates. So keep going there, getting updates, and rebooting until they stop giving you ones marked as “Critical”. Ok, now that we’re done with that, here’s the software you want:
