They had been put in a bag… but it was a bag that used to contain peanuts. I only found them because after looking for the screws I saw the bag and though “Mmm… peanuts” and when I looked inside there were screws instead.

Wish I’d been there. I’ve taken to packing-taping associated screws right to the unit itself to avoid losing them.
Sorry for being AWOL during most of your move, but as you said, this is a really bad time of the year for spare time when you have a family.
