Browncoat For Life

The Serenity preview last night went incredibly well. I had 20 tickets to the show and Fatrick (my ex-roommate) had 16, so there was a large contingent of friends and friends-of-friends there. In addition to us (and the other Browncoats) Jewel Staite (who plays Kaylee) was there. She did a short welcome at the beginning and answered questions afterwards.

We got to see Joss’ welcome before the movie, and I swear I was getting misty-eyed because already having seen the movie once I knew the greatness he was talking about, and recognized how hard it would be to promote the movie to non-fans. Then we saw the movie. Every single person I went with was gushing about how great it was afterwards, even those who hadn’t really called themselves Firefly fans beforehand (and had only seen a few episodes).

So look, I know I get quite a bit of traffic from people I don’t know well (or at all) on this blog, so I’m telling you that if you don’t watch the Firefly series you are doing yourself a grave disservice. I firmly believe someone going in cold to the movie would still enjoy it — a lot. But you’ll miss out on some nuances, and you won’t have the full background. Also, Firefly is great.

You can rent Firefly from Netflix or your local video store, watch it on the Sci-Fi channel, buy the DVD set or hell download it online because afterwards you’ll probably want to get your own legal copy anyway.

Watch Firefly.
Then watch Serenity, and enjoy one of the best sci-fi movies ever.
