I have a few different web servers. Holycow.com and most of my newer sites are hosted through the excellent Liquidweb.
But I have an old account with a company called Ace-Host (.net) that was really cheap. They’ve been a bit shaky with some downtime, but I couldn’t really fault the price.
Until today. Their server blew up (or something) and they lost everything. EVERYTHING. I’ve got backups of the files, but the SQL data (in Jessica Pink, and Rev. Gored’s blogs, for example) is ALL LOST.
I’m currently trying to get them to get a data recovery company to salvage what they’ve got but they’re just apologizing and offering a free year of hosting on a server with remote backup. THAT DOESN’T CUT IT.
If you’re one of the people whose blog we lost, I’m really working hard to get them to recover the data. All hope is not gone yet, but it’s a dark day and things don’t look good.

I apologize. Something happened to me. All the naked photo’s of my exgirlfriend are now gone.
I still haven’t touched base with them on whether I’m still a client or not. I should probably sort that out.
err that’s supposed to say “Something happened with my account as well.” Stupid 1:34am responses.
They seem to have restored most of my data, other than SQL related stuff.
I’m probably going to move my sites to a personal machine sitting at home.
It’s more reliable.
So is this why the Goontown forums have been down for a few days now?
Well, I guess this is an example of getting what you pay for. And I never paid a cent.
Alas.
