More Like LOLentines

I’ve had a few people ask me now “So what are you guys doing for Valentine’s Day?”

“Nothing.”

“Nothing?! Well I’ll bet Mel won’t be very happy about that!”

“No, look we don’t go for arbitrary greeting card holidays that tell us we should appreciate our partners. I don’t need to save one day a year for realizing how beautiful, smart, giving, funny and hot my wife is and how much I love her. I realize that every day, so Hallmark can go take a flying leap.”

Hah! You know she wants flowers. Wasteful, dying flowers. In honour of the day. You know it!

She wants flowers, but not in honour of the day. I don’t get them for her any other day, so why yesterday?

For those not in the know, I see the gift of flowers as a symbol not so much a gift of much value. And as a symbol of love, flowers suck. They die, quickly. That doesn’t fit for how I feel about Mel.

This is why Rob rocks - I also find the gift of a dying plant symbolically unpleasant as a representation of love, and this V-day he got me a living miniature rose plant. It’s budding as we speak, and assuming I can take care of it will live on happily. I think this was a great idea. :)

And when it dies, you’re going to have to leave him.
