Hoopiest Trailer Ever

Check out this third Hitchhiker’s Guide To The Galaxy Trailer. Apparently this one was created not by marketing monkeys at the studio but by the filmmakers themselves, and it shows. It has absolutely ensured that I will be at the theatre on April 29th wearing pajamas, slippers, a nightgown and carrying my towel.

Update! New link to non-streaming high-res copies! Go there now and get the “Your computer can’t hack it” resolution. Thank you freezedriedmovies.com!

Sickness Fix

Late last night while doing a combination of work and play — the AEG web server was crashing a lot so the techs were looking in on it and I was keeping track of their progress, but while I waited I played some City of Heroes. We were running through the Eden Trial with a few other Goons, and I started getting that “you’re going to get sick soon” feeling. You know the one where you can feel each of the hairs on your body as your clothes rub against them? Then a headache came in.

I immediately megadosed on Vitamin C, drank as much water as I could, and took some cold/flu medicine. Mel suggested we watch Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and said “I hope you can stay awake for the super romantic ending sweetie.” I didn’t think there’d be much of a problem. It was only 9pm and my sleep schedule has been pretty bad lately.

I’ve never been a morning person, but recently my body has decided to completely skip over mornings altogether. I’m happy with a 10am wakeup because of how my work, uh… works. It lets me catch up on any requests and allows me to stay up late working when the server isn’t so busy if need be. But lately my sleep/wake cycle had been creeping forward so that I was getting up after noon some days. I knew this was no good, but just couldn’t fix it.

But because of this I had no problems staying awake. Mel zonked out (she works real hours) so I got to prod her awake and give a mocking “I hope you stay awake for the super romantic ending sweetie…” She did. What a great movie.

I checked back on the techs dealing with the AEG server and they were going to watch it overnight. I could finally feel the upcoming illness and the cold & flu pills crashing down on me so I went to bed…

And woke up at 9am. What a respectable hour! Ok, respectable for me…

I’m still a little woozy and feeling that hair-folicle weirdness, but I think I’ve avoided full-on sickness. I’m going to do what I can to maintain this new schedule. Thanks, illness!

City of Heroes — First Hit’s Free

I’ve got a free 14 day City of Heroes trial key for anybody that wants it. This key and a link will let you sign up and download City of Heroes and play it for two full weeks. After that if you like it you have to buy the game, but you can add your game’s account to the current one so you don’t lose the characters you built up.

I’ll give it to the first person that I actually know who posts a comment here and is interested (and has a computer that can play it) and may actually continue after the two weeks.

More Like LOLentines

I’ve had a few people ask me now “So what are you guys doing for Valentine’s Day?”

“Nothing.”

“Nothing?! Well I’ll bet Mel won’t be very happy about that!”

“No, look we don’t go for arbitrary greeting card holidays that tell us we should appreciate our partners. I don’t need to save one day a year for realizing how beautiful, smart, giving, funny and hot my wife is and how much I love her. I realize that every day, so Hallmark can go take a flying leap.”

Winter Golf

As Dave mentioned we got in a round of golf on Friday. We went to Cheam Golf, an executive par 58 here in Chilliwack and my first 10 holes were great, snagging me my first official birdie on the tenth. After that I went back to my old ways and had some awful tee-offs and worse putting. I ended shooting a 79 which is still my best score there.

Dave shot an 80 so I won. He’d forgotten his putter so I’m sure he would’ve beat me with a full set.

Winter fees were $10, but thanks to buying ten driving range tokens we both got $5 off, so it came to a measly $5 to play. If the weather gets good I’ll definitely head out for that deal again.

RIAA Harrassment Extends To The Dead

As if we needed more proof that the RIAA’s buckshot lawsuits against file sharers was ridiculous and inaccurate, here’s the story of them suing an 83 year old grandma who refused to allow PCs in her house. They continued their bullying until her daughter sent them her death certificate.

Don’t forget the reasons to get rid of major lables at DonwhillBattle.

Hitchhiker’s Infocom Game

Those of you lucky enough to have been gaming back in the olden days (Apple II+ anyone?) will remember Infocom’s text adventures. The Zork series was probably the most famous but their Hitchhiker’s Guide To The Galaxy game held a special place in my heart. It was excellent and absurd and full of in-jokes.

There has been a total conversion available online for a while but now there’s a 20th Anniversary Edition, online and it’s excellently done. Go, play. And don’t forget your towel.
