I should have mentioned this before, but Hero is a stunning, superb film. I’m not a Jet Li fan. I’m nearly the opposite, as I find that his acting ability and insistence on appearing “cool” at all times really hurts everything I’ve seen him in (I still haven’t seen the “Once Upon A Time in China” stuff yet, so don’t go pointing those out).
But in Hero, he’s perfect. And the story is great. And the twists and turns are excellent.
And you should see it before you hear too much about it. Go.
Pay close attention also to Tony Leung (Hard Boiled) and Maggie Cheung (Heroic Trio, any Jackie chan “Police Story” movie). They are not only bigger better action stars than Li, they are better actors as well.
At least, in China.
