By now I’m sure most of you have heard of the MSBlaster Worm making its way through unprotected Windows 2000 and Windows XP machines. The Title for this post is part of hidden text in the worm’s code. Here it is in its entirety:

“Billy Gates why do you make this possible? Stop making money and fix your software!!”

Well, I don’t want to get off on a rant here, but if you got affected by this virus, more than half the blame is on you, and certainly not on Bill Gates. There’s been a patch out on Windows Update that fixes this vulnerability since July 16th. That’s nearly a month, and responsible computer users should be checking Windows Update at least once per week for critical updates.

Now don’t get me wrong, clearly the rest of the blame is on the ass who decided to code this virus and release it. But you are responsible for keeping your computer secure and Windows (”Billy Gates”) has given you an incredible tool for doing so called Windows Update. Hell, you can even set your computer to automatically check for critical updates and download them in the background!

Also, get a freaking firewall people. ZoneAlarm is free and very powerful. If you’re already behind a router you won’t need it, but it certainly won’t hurt.
