Body For Life 2.0

At the start of 2002, I’d had enough with my body degenerating. I’d always had some extra weight, but it was really going downhill for me. I’m 5′10″ and weighed 256lbs and sat in front of a computer most of the day. Something had to change.

I was smart enough to avoid fad diets. I knew that what I had to do was “eat right and exercise” but that’s much easier said than done. A few friends had tried Body For Life and the method seemed perfect, if a little extreme. So I hunkered down and did it. I just decided that I’d start and I did. Here’s what I looked like after my very first workout

I stuck with the program for the full 12 weeks, and took photos every week, and never cheated once without making it up by switching off-days. It really turned me around. I immediately felt my energy pick up and after about three or four weeks I could feel my muscles hardening. I started to feel better about myself and it started to show. Though I’m a pretty confident guy, my body image wasn’t the best. That was changing.

After twelve weeks, I looked more like this:

Because of the wedding that year, I stopped doing Body For Life “hardcore” but stuck with the diet and played road hockey twice a week. I managed to keep the weight off and feel great through to October when we stopped playing hockey.

At Christmas I really started to slide, and 2003 continued that trend. I’ve gained back 15 pounds that I lost, though I’ve kept a lot of the muslce mass so I’m not as bad as I was last year when I started.

But no more slacking. I’m officially announcing here (so I won’t wimp out) that I’m starting another hardcore full-on 12 week bout of Body For Life starting Monday, April 7th. I’ll post updates here. Wish me luck.
