"The Best fantasy writing of the decade." - The Times
The first new Sandman title in three years...
Neil Gaimanıs extraordinary Sandman saga, which culminated in the best-selling Sandman: The Wake, is the story of the world of Morpheus, Lord of the Dreaming, and his family, The Endless. The Sandman series has received glowing praise from a huge cross-section of the media, from the most highbrow literary editors to the most painfully hip style mags, and has won armfuls of awards, including the 1991 World Fantasy Award for Best Short Story, leaving the organisers dumbstruck that a "comic" could have recognisable literary merit (they later instituted rules to prevent it happening again!)
Now, after a three year break, Neil Gaiman takes up the Sandman mantle once more for an all-new story told this time in an illustrated text format, similar to the acclaimed Stardust. Set in ancient Japan, it is a haunting fable of ill-fated love and dream-eating monsters painted by legendary Japanese artist Yoshitaka Amano. All-new fiction from Gaiman that every Sandman fan has been waiting for - quite simply unmissable!
Gaiman on Amano:
"Amano would send me books he had created, while I was
writing the story, and I would find my own discovery of some new
facet to his talent would spur me to write something to elicit
that side of his art in my book, secure in the knowledge that his
images for whatever I was writing would be stranger and more
beautiful than what I was imagining."
Amano on Gaiman:
"Every word Neil Gaiman chooses carries hundreds and
thousands of stories that are so fascinating. It would be
impossible to paint them all, even if I spent my entire lifetime.
So what I do is paint as many as I can."
NEIL GAIMAN is the most critically acclaimed graphic novel writer of today and is the author of numerous books and graphic novels. Future work includes big screen versions of Stardust, Neverwhere and Death: The High Cost of Living. YOSHITAKA AMANO is a celebrated Japanese artist, responsible for work on Battle Of The Planets, Vampire Hunter D and the Final Fantasy series of videogames.
