It happened a week or two back, but a big thank you to everyone out there visiting The Dreaming. We hit half a million visits to The Dreaming's front page alone.

I'm touched, flattered and very happy that you've found this site useful.

I'll also take this time to send out a big "Thank you bunches!" to Lucy Anne, who has really been doing a great job since the news script allowed her to post here.

Gormenghast Graphic Novel Update
Posted by puck at 2:01 AM PDT | Comments (0)
Evadne found this little morsel on http://www.gormenghastcastle.co.uk/

The Peake family are planning a graphic novel of Gormenghast, the adaption to be done by Neil Gaiman, with artwork by Dave McKean.

Update: June 20, 2000 - Neil emailed to say that the Peake family have not asked him to do a Gormenghast Graphic Novel, though BBC America did ask him for a quote about the TV Series.

Murder Mysteries Audio News
Posted by puck at 1:46 AM PDT | Comments (0)
In addition to clarifying some things in some of the news from the past few days, Neil passed this along:

And I hear that MURDER MYSTERIES won't be coming out from Dove Audio, due to problems at Dove Audio and that the scifi channel are looking for a new audio publisher for it (and for everything else I suppose).

Gauntlet
Posted by lucy_anne at 7:00 PM PDT | Comments (0)
Gauntlet #19 is out with the second half of Roel Torres' interview with Neil (the first half was in #17). The whole issue is full of articles and interviews discussing comics and censorship. Unfortunately, they still haven't updated their website, but the link would be at http://www.gauntletpress.com/magazine/Default.htm

Princess Mononoke on DVD/Video
Posted by puck at 5:48 PM PDT | Comments (2)
Browzing around Amazon.com and noticed that Princess Mononoke is available on DVD and Video. The Video is priced for rental (in other words: VERY EXPENSIVE), but the DVD is an excellent $18 or so, and their page says it ships in 2-3 days.

So what are you waiting for? Buy Princess Mononoke on DVD!

UPDATE: June 23, 2000 - The Amazon page has changed and now says the release date is January 1, 2001. Oh well...

While you're there, pick up Fight Club - along with American Beauty, it was my favorite movie last year.

A Wolf At the Door and Other Retold Fairy Tales
Posted by lucy_anne at 9:26 PM PDT | Comments (0)
A Wolf at the Door : And Other Retold Fairy Tales by Ellen Datlow (Editor), Terri Windling (Editor) arrived at the store today

This is the book with Neil's poem, "Instructions", as well as redone versions of fairy tales ranging from Cinderella (Jane Yolen's "Cinder Elephant") to Jack and the Beanstalk (Michael Cadnum's "Mrs. Big").

The audience is 8-12 year olds (you'll find it in with the Young Reader books, rather than Young Adult), but the stories work for us older folks as well.

I don't think these newsy bits have appeared here; apologizes if I missed them in the archives. Unfortunately, some are a few months old, but the links seem to still be active

There was another article about a comic writer's take on World Horror Con on one of the news sites, but I can't seem to track down the link - please email me if you can help!
  • DCs July soliciations include a "brand new, gold foil enhanced cover" softcover of Dream Hunters, due to ship July 19. ($19.95) More importantly (at least to me) is the fact that the page count looks to be *exactly* the same as the hard cover. So much for making the epilogue obviously imaginary in the next printings. Drat.

BA-FOG #1's Guide to alt.fan.neil-gaiman

Michelle Hyman, BA-FOG #1 has a web page describing Thing(ie)s you might find on a.f.n-g! which will warn... er... inform prospective 'thingies' of what they can expect to go on in the channel.

Her semi-monthly thingie posting also points at the alt.fan.neil-gaiman beta-faq.

Times fixed
Posted by puck at 10:37 PM PDT | Comments (0)
I've fixed the time display for news postings - the error was a small one on my part - times were off by 8 hours. I'd thought the config file wanted to know the difference between me and GMT, not the difference between me and my server. Oops.

Luckily, making this one change fixed all the posted times. NewsPro programmers, I thank you heartily.

"Land of Laughs"
Posted by lucy_anne at 9:07 PM PDT | Comments (0)
Charles Vess notes in Green Man Press' messageboard that Neil had requested some artwork to be shown to the movie folks who may want to get the _Land Of Laughs_ project of the ground. _Land of Laughs_ is a Jonathan Carroll book from 1980; it has gone out of print, and while I haven't seen it priced at anything less than $100 on eBay and such, amazon.co.uk lists a September release on a paperback version.

Neil at Millennium Finncon
Posted by puck at 9:28 PM PDT | Comments (0)
Ari Veintie emailed to say that Neil will be appearing at Millennium Finncon, a combined SF and Comics convention on August 18-20, 2000.

Their page design is very cool, but I don't speak any Finnish, and Babelfish doesn't either, so I can't understand much other than "Neil Gaiman" (and "P. Craig Russell"). :-)

Jean Prouvaire let a.f.n-g know that Inkwell.vue has a conference with Neil about Dream Hunters. I'm not sure if this is a transcript or an ongoing thing. It's certainly an excellent read either way.

To view the conference, go to the page, click "Enter Conference" and then find topic #73.

Netscape... Grrr...
Posted by puck at 1:12 PM PDT | Comments (0)
Argh! I just checked the new layout with Netscape 4.7 (yes, I prefer IE) and for some reason it refuses to listen to the size="xx" argument in the Search box HTML, so it stretches too far across the page.

If anyone knows of a fix for this, please let me know (hey, try the new comments page!) I've found other pages that use small input fields that work fine in Netscape, but I can't for the life of me see what they've done differently.

Internet Movie Database

There is a Neil Gaiman interview in the premiere issue of Wicked magazine. The article is about 3 pages long, and includes photographs. It discusses Dream Hunters and his past work.
