Added Penny Blubaugh’s thesis entitled Fantastic Literature: Defending a Dreadful of Dragons
Not sure why I hadn’t seen this before. If you’re wondering how the Sandman script is going, or just want to lose all hope for a good version of the film, read what Roger Avary has to say about his work on the script. (Thanks to Nightwalker for posting that!)
I’ve added contact information for Neil’s literary and film agents on the Email page.
Lucy Anne posted a link to Ain’t It Cool News’ review of the latest Sandman Movie Script - in case you’re wondering how he feels about it, here’s an excerpt:
Its really remarkable to me that Warner Bros. continues to throw such high-profile, potentially profitable franchises at Jon Peters, a con artist and hack of the highest degree. The man hasnt had an original idea (or a hit) in a decade. He is poison. I cant say this in strong enough terms. Take this project away from him.
Hallelujah, brother!
Nightwalker supplied some information on the altfan.thingie about Neil’s Fiction in the new release of the Vampire: The Masquerade Role Playing Game:
Well, as far as I know, the selection of fiction is available only in the Vampire: The Masquerade 3rd Edition Limited Edition…it’s a slipcover edition with two books: One is the rules book, and the other is the collected art over the years from Vampire. The story (or, stories as it is) is called “Fifteen Painted Cards from a Vampire Tarot”…it was commisioned solely for the book. Think of it as 15 little stories, or sonnets, or snippets if you will. It is actually quite good. A little story for 15 Major Arcana cards.
Neil was going to do all 21 cards of the Major Arcana, but ended up doing only 15. Also, bad things struck White Wolf during the production of the Limited Edition. It was originally supposed to be a 7000 copy run (or somesuch number)…a very limited supply. Unfortunately, due to problems at the printer and other happenings, a loose number were made…approx. 2900-4000 according to my sources. Suffice to say, comic shops that ordered 10, only got 1 or 2….if any at all. It makes to be an interesting collectible.
It was also at Tropicon that Neil saw his first copy of it. It was
“interesting”….according to him.
It really is a pretty set of books…
Gee, if only some nice person at White Wolf were to send me a copy…
Carty posted a sidebar from Computer Gaming World’s print review of Morpheus (which has nothing to do with our Morpheus) to alt.fan.neil-gaiman:
Dreaming In Color
If you’re interested in the god of dreams, Morpheus is the central character in Neil Gaiman’s Sandman series of graphic novels, which has nothing to do with the Morpheus game but offers some of the best fantasy available in any medium. {snip snip}
The sidebar then describes:
Dream Country: This isn’t the first Sandman, but it’s where Gaiman really hits his stride. Learn about imprisoned muses, view the dreams of cats, and hang out with Will Shakespeare.
A Game Of You: More bizarre, yet likable, characters than you’ll ever meet this side of a Lewis Carroll novel, featuring a blonde heroine names Barbie, a female rock star (who just wants to settle down), a chillingly practical witch, and a weird villain, the Cuckoo, who attacks victims in their dreams.
The Doll’s House: This can either be read as a fairly straightforward story about serial killers, or as a parable on what to do when you make the wrong choices in life- it’s enlightening, uplifting… and creepy as hell.
I’ve linked to it before, but Marianne Desautels posted the link to The Hayao Miyazaki Web’s Princess Mononoke Page.
Just to prove I do know something and I don’t just post other people’s findings, here’s another great Princess Mononoke page. There you’ll find out lots of cool things about the US dubbed version, like the voice cast of: Claire Danes, Billy Crudup, Gillian Anderson, Minnie Driver, Angelina Jolie, and Billy Bob Thornton
The Comic Book Legal Defense Fund is selling copies of Neil’s Babylon 5 Script for “Day of the Dead“. (TNT will be rebroadcasting this episode on December 16th at 11pm et/pt, and the midnight of December 21/22 - thanks Ryan J. Labay for that info)
